Advantages and Benefits:
- Premium Poplar Thermally Modified Siding is durable for 25 years due to the thermo-treatment process. Unlike pressure treatment, our Poplar Siding is a 100% Green product. The equilibrium moisture content (EMC) is reduced to 4%. The thermo-treatment changes the color of the wood to a brown tint that is consistent beyond the surface.
- We use Clear Premium Grade Poplar, carefully mill boards, and then apply wood oil with UV protection (Thompson’s Clear Oil-based sealant) to all four sides.
- Our two-side profile allows applying siding either with Nickel-gap side up or V-joint side up.
- Essential Durability
Thermo treatment is a chemical-free process resulting in unmatched durability and natural resistance to termites and pests. - Lowest Maintenance
The improved dimensional stability allows for extended maintenance intervals compared to other wood products. - Repels Moisture
Thermally-treated wood naturally repels moisture to prevent warping, shrinking, and swelling of the wood. - Class B Fire Rating
Reduced combustibility due to thermo-treatment. - Exotic woods look
The brown color is consistent beyond the surface.
- Versus pressure-treated softwoods: Thermo Poplar Siding is a 100% “Green” product that doesn’t crack, shrink, or swell as pressure-treated lumber. Over its lifetime, it costs 3-4 times less.
- Versus exotic woods: Thermo Poplar Siding is much lighter in weight, easier to work with, more stable in size, and easier to work with.
- Versus composite: Thermo Poplar Siding does not overheat under sunlight, and it is a real wood.
- Versus thermo-ash siding: Poplar is lighter in weight and offers more color variations but does not show the grain character of wood like Ash.
Makes product ready to use;
Prevents fading of color under sunlight;
Prevents seasonal surface checking;
It makes wood grain sound and attractive;
Our free FOUR side oiling saves you $2-4/SF, which contractors usually charge for ONE-side surface oiling on site; oiling of the back side is extremely important to increase the lifetime and performance of your siding.
Cut it, sand it, nail it, drill it, paint or stain it as you would practically any standard-grade lumber, using the same standard tools.
Take into consideration that thermo-treated wood is drier (4% EMC), lighter in weight, and a little more brittle than non-treated wood.
Install wood siding over furring strips (use 1 or 2-foot span) for ventilation. Use outdoor-rated nails or screws. Use finishing nails or installation clips for T&G siding for the hidden fastening look. Thermo-treated wood furring strips are available.
Saw speed will affect the cut quality; generally, the higher the saw power, the better the cut quality.
A high-quality sealant with UV protection should be used after the first one to two years.
